Heidi Kawai lives and works in London; she has been a professional designer for over 20 years. She gained a PGC photography from Central St Martins College in 2009, then went on to complete a Master in Human-Computer Interactive in 2012; she has focused on her career development as a user experience designer since.
In 2013, alongside her day job, Heidi co-founded a micro-publishing company – Relief Press, with Nicholas Smith, specialised in creating artist and curator books with a specialist interest in photography and technology. Relief Press published a journal from 2013-15, participated in Counter Book Fair (2014), London Art Book Fair (2015) and Off Print London (2016 and 2017); Relief ran a programme of events during 2015-16, coincided with the publication of Image of an Exhibition. In 2018, Relief Press published London Overspill with artist James Smith.
During lockdown 2020, she rekindles her direct relationship with photography, starting a MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography in autumn. Heidi held an interest in personal identity and intimacy.
